WNAM REPORT: The potential hosting of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) – one of the largest scientific and technological forums in the global space industry – in Uzbekistan in 2028 could open new opportunities for the country’s scientific and investment development.
This forum, which annually gathers about 10,000 representatives of leading space agencies, companies, and the scientific community, is an essential platform for exchanging scientific concepts, showcasing technological innovations, and attracting investment.
The nomination of Uzbekistan, initiated by Uzbekspace, can be considered an important strategic step. Within the framework of the congress, advanced aerospace technologies will be showcased, enabling domestic scientists and companies to adopt and apply them.
Hosting the IAC 2028 in Samarkand could become an essential tool for Uzbekistan in developing high-tech sectors of the economy and strengthening international cooperation.
Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation Christian Feichtinger reviewed security matters, as well as infrastructure, transportation, and hotel facilities in Samarkand and Tashkent.
Samarkand’s geographical location, historical and cultural heritage, and modern congress centers create favorable conditions for holding this forum at a high level. In addition, the special attention paid in Uzbekistan to the development of tourism, transportation, and scientific centers also serves as a solid foundation for hosting the event.
The legal basis for this initiative is the Presidential Decree “On measures to introduce aerospace technologies in sectors of the economy in 2024-2026”.
