ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) in collaboration with the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) organized the “Symposium on Radiation Techniques in Health and Environment”, from August 18-20, 2025 at the PAS Auditorium, Islamabad. The event was mainly supported by the Inter Academy Partnership (IAP). The Domestic Partners namely: Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Islamabad, Pakistan; Health Services Academy (HSA), Islamabad, Pakistan; National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan; and Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, Pakistan, also contributed significantly in organizing this symposium. Prof. Dr. Kauser Abdulla Malik, President PAS, and Prof. Dr. M. Aslam Baig, Secretary General PAS, addressed and welcomed the conference delegates and participants. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev, President, the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) was invited as a Chief Guest and Dr. Masood Iqbal, Member Science Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Islamabad, Pakistan, was invited as a Guest of Honor, at the occasion. Moreover, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad Chowdhury, President BAS, The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), Dhakka, Bangladesh; Prof. Dr. Xiangke Wang, Dean of College of Environmental Science and Engineering, China; Prof. Dr. Seung Hyup KIM, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, Korea; Emeritus Professor Dr. Ng Kwan Hoong, FASc, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM); and Dr. Shazia Fatima, DG NM&O (PAEC), Director General, Nuclear Medicine & Oncology, PAEC HQ, Islamabad, Pakistan, also graced the event with their participation.

In total, 28 lectures were presented by eminent local and foreign speakers in Five (5) Technical Sessions of this Symposium. Over 150 scientists, academicians, scholars, medical doctors, industrialists, and policymakers from various institutes of Pakistan attended the event physically and or virtually. The local invited speakers, academicians, and participants of this conference included those from Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Health Services Academy (HAS), Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (IRNUM), Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy Institute (NORI), Institute Of Nuclear Medicine & Oncology (INMOL), National Institute of Lasers and Optronics (NILOP), Centre For Nuclear Medicine (CENUM), Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad; National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Government College University, Lahore; and others.

During the concluding session, Prof. Dr. Kauser Abdulla Malik, Prof. Dr. M. Aslam Baig, and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad Chowdhury, Dr. Shazia Fatima, and Dr. Shaukat Hameed Khan, addressed and thanked all the invited speakers and participants. While addressing in the concluding session, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev highlighted the several benefits of this symposium, such as: Application of Radiation Techniques for the Betterment of Health (Principles & Latest Developments); Application of Radiation Techniques for the Betterment of Environment (Principles & Latest Developments for air, soil and water pollution monitoring studies, waste treatment & management, etc.); Guidelines on Safe Use of Radiation Techniques.
