WNAM MONITPRING: The 2025 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will come to a close today in Baku.
The main race is scheduled to begin at 15:00 local time.
In Saturday”s qualifying session, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen secured pole position with the fastest lap. Carlos Sainz of Williams qualified second, while Liam Lawson from Racing Bulls took P3. Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes will start fourth on the grid, with his teammate George Russell lining up in fifth.
Earlier in the day, the final race of the Formula 2 weekend will also take place, beginning at 11:00. In qualifying, Jak Crawford from Dams Lukas Oil posted the quickest time.
The Baku City Circuit features 20 corners and 51 laps, covering a total race distance of 306.049 kilometers. The inaugural race in the Azerbaijani capital was held in 2016 under the title of the European Grand Prix. Since then, the venue has hosted eight editions of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Past winners of the Baku race include Nico Rosberg (Germany, 2016), Daniel Ricciardo (Australia), Lewis Hamilton (United Kingdom), Valtteri Bottas (Finland), Sergio Perez (Mexico), and Max Verstappen (Netherlands). Notably, Sergio Perez claimed his second Baku victory in 2023, while Oscar Piastri (Australia, McLaren) won the event in 2024. The race was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Heading into today”s Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri leads the Drivers” Championship with 324 points, followed by teammate Lando Norris with 293 points. Max Verstappen sits third with 230 points.
In the Constructors” Championship, McLaren tops the standings with 617 points, ahead of Ferrari (280 points) and Mercedes (260 points).
