A reliable survey reveals that Pakistan is on the top of the list of the countries whose people suffer from diabetes. This is indeed very shocking. Lack of physical activity and excessive use of junk food and fizzy drinks are listed among the main causes of this dilemma. Diabetes is regarded as mother of many diseases. It affects eye sight and damages kidneys.

-If this news is correct that the other day in a police parade held in Kabul, songs with the words that Islamabad will be burnt and Afghanistan’s flag will be hoisted in Lahore were played on loudspeakers is indeed very sad development. What a pity that there are many in this country who despite, antagonist attitude of Kabul against Pakistan still nurse a soft corner in their heart for those who move in the corridors of power in Kabul. There is no gainsaying the fact that India is the almoner of Afghanistan and is bankrolling it for creating problems galore for Pakistan day in and day out.
-Traffic accidents on our roads are killing more persons every year than cancer and heart attacks put together. A majority of the drivers plying vehicles in this country are not in possession of driving licence and even if they have driving licence it has been obtained by greasing the palms of the driving licence issuing authority. They are only wheel drivers and have no inkling of traffic rules and requirements. No body has ever taught them that while driving how much distance needs to be kept from the vehicle moving ahead of them, how much speed needs to be maintained while driving in residential areas and market roads, after how much time alignment of the vehicles under their use need to be made so on and so forth every second person driving motor bicycle on our roads doesn’t wear helmet and the traffic policemen look the other way.
The entire present traffic system needs to be revamped and build anew. In the first instance, all present driving licences will have to be cancelled and their holders put to test in every district for ascertaining whether they are well versed of the traffic rules and requirements mentioned above. If they pass this test fresh driving licenses be issued to them. This procedure, no doubt is long and cumbersome but if we are to streamline our traffic system and save deaths on our roads due to road accidents, we have to eat this bitter, willy nilly.
