Will the UN also go the same way League of Nations had gone?

With the passing of every day an impression is being created that the UN has now become a toothless creature. A case in point is that a super power had the audacity to invade a much smaller and weaker country, landed it troops on its soil and arrested its President. It is being rumored that emboldened by this macho type action, Trump might land American marines in some other LatinAmerican countries also whose rulers don’t see eye to eye with American policy makers.
One wonders whether or not the present UN headed by a weakling General Secretary has got the grit and determination to pull his weight and make the super powers respect conventions of the UN. Needless to add that all the good work done hitherto by the UN like reaching out with aid to fight famine in many less privileged countries and stop civil wars in many countries will go down the drain if super powers weren’t made to uphold UN conventions and respect the sovereignty of smaller countries.
