ISLAMABAD (WNAM REPORT ): Chairman of the Pakistan Alternative Energy Association Azhar Javed stated that by making net metering expensive and ineffective, the only facility that was providing some relief to the middle class is being taken away.

He said that the net metering facility not only provided relief to industrialists and traders against rising electricity costs, but also played a significant role in promoting solar energy in the country. However, recent measures will reduce the effectiveness of this facility, which will ultimately undermine investor confidence.

He further stated that discouraging renewable energy will have negative consequences for both the national economy and the environment. The business community is already burdened by high electricity bills, heavy taxation, and increasing production costs. In such circumstances, rendering net metering ineffective will create further difficulties for industry and trade.
