Renaissance of Hockey

What a pity that Pakistan’ s hockey has fallen on bad days. Neither the outgoing last  President of the PHF was  a reputed hockey player nor the incoming. There are present many old  hockey stalwarts in the country whose services can be utilized for putting life in the dead body of our hockey team which has been lying in the oxygen chamber on the ventilator  for about a quarter of a century now. This is pathetic given  the fact that from 1950 upto 1990 Pakistan’s hockey team ruled the roost  for almost half a century.

Why can’t the relevant Authority form a Committee comprising our old Olympians and give them the task to make country’s hockey  stand on its feet, identify  the causes that ails it and then suggest remedial measures for removing them. Mere changing head of the PHF isn’t going to inject new life into the dead horse.

-It was wrong on the part of some PTI leaders to declare formation of what they billed as a force for getting their party head released from jail.  There can only be one force in a country and that belongs to the state .  If this trend of forming their own  forces by the political parties for getting the things done  by force  caught on, what difference will be left between rule by the jackboot and rule of law in the country, it will only result in anarchy in the country.  mHitler too had raised Gestapo. What fate befell him is now history.

-Another dangerous trend is the use of students unions by almost all the political parties for furtherance of their political motives in the college and university premises. The College and universities, authorities have also been lax in preventing presence of prohibitive bore weaponry with the office bearers of students unions staying in the hostels of educational institutions as a result of which many students lose their lives when this weaponry is used with rare abandon by the rival students unions in their clashes .
