BAKU ( WNAM MONIORING): During the days when Baku hosted the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), Icherisheher, the pearl of the Azerbaijani capital, turned into a magnificent cultural and entertainment hub.
As part of a large-scale program held from May 18 to 24, interactive, inclusive and creative projects were implemented at various sites of the ancient reserve. The events attracted great interest from both city residents and foreign guests.
From the first days, a gastro-zone operated at the Maiden Tower Square, jointly organized by the Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve Department and the Azerbaijan Tourism Board. Samples of national cuisine were presented, and master classes on making sweets were held. In line with the urban planning theme, specially designed cake models of the Maiden Tower, Flame Towers and other architectural symbols were prepared.
Special painting and sculpture pavilions were organized for children. The Graffiti Jam project, held with the participation of artists, also attracted great interest from visitors.
As part of the Architects of the Future project, an exhibition of futuristic projects titled “Friendly City,” presented by children, was in the spotlight. Children won the admiration of forum participants with creative architectural compositions they prepared as “living easels.”
At the same time, an Urban Planning Fair was organized on May 20–22. The fair featured a promotion and sales exhibition of local brands. In addition, impressive concert programs were held at the Gosha Gala Square on May 20–22, offering participants unforgettable musical evenings. Exhibition and sales fairs of traditional handicrafts were organized at Baku Khans” Park, supporting local small businesses.
On May 23, the Photography Night event was held at the Maiden Tower Square, the Quadrangular Tower and Gosha Gala Square through visual projections and LED screens. The event featured examples of urban culture and contemporary art. A DJ performance was also presented on the main stage at Gosha Gala Square as part of the project. The UrbanNight event was also held near the Maiden Tower Square.
