ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): Chairman of the Pakistan Alternative Energy Association, Asif Javed, has expressed concern over proposals to increase taxes on solar panels and related equipment in the federal budget, stating that such measures could discourage the rapidly growing solarization movement in the country.

He noted that various proposals have recently emerged regarding an increase in sales tax on solar equipment, raising concerns among stakeholders associated with the renewable energy sector.

Asif Javed said that Pakistan is facing serious challenges, including an energy crisis, high electricity costs, and heavy dependence on imported fuels. Under these circumstances, solar energy is not only providing relief to consumers but is also playing a significant role in reducing the burden on the national economy.

He added that over the past few years, millions of households, commercial centers, and industrial units have adopted solar energy solutions. If additional taxes are imposed on solar panels and other related equipment, the cost of solar projects will increase, making the installation of solar systems more difficult and less affordable for the average consumer.
