Gilgit-Baltistan: A Treasure Trove of Investment Opportunities: Chief Minister
Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Gulbar Khan, has stated that Gilgit-Baltistan is an ideal region for investment compared to other areas of the country. It is the most peaceful region in Pakistan. There are vast opportunities for investment in key sectors such as power, minerals, agriculture, and tourism. He made these remarks during a meeting yesterday with a delegation of the United Business Group (UBG) led by S.M. Tanveer. He said the government is providing every possible support to investors and has undertaken special reforms to promote investment. A Board of Investment has been established, and the Public-Private Partnership law has been passed. He added that work is progressing rapidly on the establishment of industrial and economic zones. A one-window facility for investors will be introduced soon. Major infrastructure projects are under construction to improve transportation, including the Gilgit-Chitral Expressway, Skardu-Astore Road, and Darail-Tangir Expressway. T
To permanently resolve the power crisis in the province, short-term and long-term policies are being implemented. He said that efforts are being made to complete the Prime Minister’s announced 100-megawatt solar power project in a short period. In addition, several other mega power projects are also under construction. The construction of an international airport in Skardu has led to a significant increase in both domestic and international tourism to Baltistan. The government is also striving to construct an international airport in Gilgit and is inviting major investors in this regard.
On this occasion, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan for Information Technology Muhammad Ali Quaid, Chairman Board of Investment Fatehullah Khan, Provincial Secretary Tourism, Provincial Secretary Agriculture and Additional Secretary Minerals gave a briefing on investment opportunities in Gilgit-Baltistan. Speaking on the occasion, UB Chief Minister SM Tanveer said that the vision of the Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan regarding investment is commendable. The future of Gilgit-Baltistan looks bright. He said that due to the steps taken by the provincial government to attract investors, big investors will turn to Gilgit-Baltistan in the future. UBG will play its role in the construction of an international airport in Gilgit. Land reforms by the provincial government are a very important initiative that will remove obstacles to investment.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary General UBG Zafar Bakhtawari said that the expansion and modernization of Gilgit Airport has been declared essential for the development and promotion of investment in Gilgit-Baltistan. He stated that due to the limited number of flights and frequent cancellations at Gilgit Airport, investors are hesitant to invest in the region. If Gilgit Airport is upgraded to accommodate larger aircraft, similar to Skardu, it would not only boost tourism but also strengthen the local economy.
Zafar Bakhtawari cited the example of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce, which successfully established its own airport and airline through a public-private partnership. He said this model could also be replicated in Gilgit-Baltistan. He urged both the government and the private sector to work together to improve Gilgit Airport in order to promote investment and tourism in the region. He further mentioned that during Ahsan Bakhtawari’s tenure as president of the chamber, he led a large delegation to Gilgit-Baltistan, which significantly boosted tourism in the area.

Xi says dialogue, cooperation only correct choice for China, U.S. in phone call with Trump
BEIJING (Xinhua) Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that dialogue and cooperation are the only correct choice for China and the United States.
In the phone talks initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump, Xi said that recalibrating the direction of the giant ship of China-U.S. relations requires the two sides to take the helm and set the right course, adding that it is particularly important to steer clear of the various disturbances and disruptions.
Noting that at the suggestion of the U.S. side, the two countries’ lead officials recently held an economic and trade meeting in Geneva, Xi said it marked an important step forward in resolving the relevant issues through dialogue and consultation, and was welcomed by both societies and the international community.
The two sides need to make good use of the economic and trade consultation mechanism already in place, and seek win-win results in the spirit of equality and respect for each other’s concerns, he said, adding that the Chinese side is sincere about this, and at the same time has its principles.
The Chinese, Xi said, always honor and deliver what has been promised, urging both sides to make good on the agreement reached in Geneva. In fact, China has been seriously and earnestly executing the agreement, Xi added.
The U.S. side should acknowledge the progress already made, and remove the negative measures taken against China, he said.
The two sides should enhance communication in such fields as foreign affairs, economy and trade, military, and law enforcement to build consensus, clear up misunderstandings, and strengthen cooperation, Xi added.
Xi emphasized that the United States must handle the Taiwan question with prudence, so that the fringe separatists bent on “Taiwan independence” will not be able to drag China and the United States into the dangerous terrain of confrontation and even conflict.
Trump said that he has great respect for Xi, and the U.S.-China relationship is very important.
The United States wants the Chinese economy to do very well, and the United States and China working together can get a lot of great things done, he said.
Trump said the United States will honor the one-China policy.
The meeting in Geneva was very successful and produced a good deal, he said, adding that the United States will work with China to execute the deal.
The United States loves to have Chinese students coming to study in America, Trump said.
Xi welcomed Trump to visit China again, for which Trump expressed heartfelt appreciation.
The two presidents agreed that their teams should continue implementing the Geneva agreement and hold another round of meeting as soon as possible.
India, Israel will never succeed in their nefarious designs: Zafar Bakhtawari
ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Secretary General of the United Business Group (UBG), Zafar Bakhtawari, has said that the business community of Islamabad is organizing a major rally on Saturday to express full solidarity with the Pakistan Armed Forces. He said it will be the largest rally in the history of Islamabad. Traders from the twin cities must participate actively to prove that we stand firmly with our army.
He expressed these views while speaking after being invited to lead the rally by former ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President of Anjuman Tajiran Pakistan Ajmal Baloch, Rana Qaiser, Khalid Chaudhry, Nisar Mirza, Malik Mohsin Khalid, and others.
Zafar Bakhtawari stated that the drones shot down yesterday by our brave armed forces were all Israeli. He emphasized that the nation should know India and Israel are moving forward with a joint conspiracy, but they will never succeed in their malicious ambitions.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas, while inviting Zafar Bakhtawari to lead the rally, said that today’s rally should be made successful through full participation, and a strong message should be sent to the enemy that the Pakistan Army is not just 600,000 strong — it is backed by 250 million people.
Ajmal Baloch said, “Today, we request Zafar Bakhtawari to not only participate in the rally with his team but also to support and guide us.” He added that the way our armed forces have taught India a lesson will be remembered forever.
The business community leadership vowed that today the skies of Islamabad will echo with slogans of “Nara-e-Takbeer: Allahu Akbar,” “Pakistan Zindabad,” and “Pak Army Paindabad.”
Zafar Bakhtawari reaffirmed, “Pakistan’s armed forces are the guarantors of the country’s survival and security. If the integrity of the nation is ever threatened, every Pakistani will act as a soldier. The entire nation is proud of its brave forces who are defeating enemy conspiracies through unmatched sacrifices in every field.”
Under the leadership of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, the Pakistan Army is carrying out its duties with courage, wisdom, and national spirit — a model worthy of praise and emulation.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas added, “The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan Armed Forces against enemy aggression. We will not hesitate to make any sacrifice for our beloved homeland when the time comes.”

He proudly noted that Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality has been recognized twice by the United Nations through relevant resolutions, a distinction unprecedented in the realm of global diplomacy and international relations.
“This recognition,” he emphasized, “reflects Turkmenistan’s peacekeeping role and its vital contribution to ensuring regional security, stability, and the peaceful development of international relations.” Ambassador Movlamov also introduced the audience to the Concept of Turkmenistan’s activities and priorities in the context of the International Year of Peace and Trust 2025.
The event not only celebrated Navruz but also became a platform for sharing profound messages of peace, neutrality, and unity, resonating with the spirit of mutual respect and cultural collaboration that the festival so beautifully represents.
The visit of Israeli technicians to Srinagar fully equipped with technical equipment soon after the alleged act of terrorism there the other day fully exposes the nexus of India and Israel against Muslims. Both Netanyahu and Modi are arch enemies of Muslims. It is in the evidence that since long the Israeli army men have been advising the Indian army men stationed in the occupied Kashmir how to deal and eliminate the Kashmir freedom fighters on the pattern they have been dealing with the Palestinians.
Time has proved that both Netanyahu and Nirendra Modi are true disciples of Hitler.
POST SCRIPT:
It is good that saner counsel has prevailed in the leadership of both PPP and PML (N) and they have decided to place the issue of canal water before the Council of Common interests on 2nd May for a decision in the matter thus defusing the tension that had pockmarked the political scene of the country. In view of newly created tension between New Delhi and Islamabad by the former with the suspension of Indus basin treaty Pakistan can ill afford any other political turmoil in the country.
The army chief has hit the right nail on the head by saying that unfettered freedom being enjoyed by the social media in the country by spreading news without due verification amounted to mudslinging and defaming honorable persons.
God forbid if the present tension between India and Pakistan degenerated into armed conflict it can kill about 3 billion people in the sub continent. Besides three billion people can die of hunger. Agriculture of the sub continent will be destroyed and there will be a drop of ten degrees centigrade in atmospheric temperature of the world because both India and Pakistan are the atomic powers.
The American President has been facing stiff opposition from the judiciary of his country which has been setting aside many of his policy decisions on issues like the immigration.
