Marrying in haste , repenting in leisure

Many eyebrows had been raised when the decision to merge FATA with KPK was being taken . The detractors of this merger had raised the following points which were thrown into the waste paper basket by the powers that be of that time. The concept of collective tribal responsibility under which FATA was being run should not be done away with as it suited the genius of those who live in the tribal belt.
It was wrong to say that FCR was a black law drafted by the Brits. On the contrary it has been in existence long before they came here. They only codified the prevalent Jirga system into the form of a book, nothing more, nothing less.
Isn’t it a fact that in the US every state has its own different law so what is the big deal if FATA has its own laws.

The tribesmen abhor delays in the decision of courts operating in revenue districts and they also are not in a position to pay heavy counseling fee of the lawyers. They prefer decision of their judicial matters through a Jirga system under which quick adjudication is done .
It is a matter of record that the incidence of crime in FATA has always been a fraction of the crime rate in revenue districts.
A deaf ear was given to all these reservations. Time has proved these reservations right. The so-called merger of FATA with the province has done more harm than good to the law and order of FATA as well KPK. It was like a marriage in haste whose result can only be repentance.
