WNAM MONITORING: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan met with the Acting Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Michal Mlynár, in Ashgabat on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Mlynár noted that neutral Turkmenistan, consistently pursuing a peaceful constructive policy and taking an initiative stance in regional and international cooperation, has long been a reliable partner of the United Nations, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the establishment of a UN-Habitat representation in Turkmenistan is among the country’s priorities at the current 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
Furthermore, the Head of State proposed, as a first step, organizing a visit by a group of UN-Habitat experts to Turkmenistan to identify specific areas of cooperation and develop the corresponding project document.
During the meeting, an initiative was also put forward to enhance cooperation in implementing global programs and strategies for developing high-tech, environmentally friendly, disaster-resilient, and livable cities. The exchange of best practices in public-private partnerships in urban infrastructure creation and management was also highlighted.
