– On July 2-4, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, paid a state visit to Azerbaijan at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev. During the visit, several important meetings and events were held to strengthen the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. One of the key events was the second session of the Supreme Interstate Council, following which cooperation documents were signed in the economy, transport, energy, and agriculture. The two sides set a goal to increase the volume of mutual trade to one billion US dollars by 2030.
A solemn opening ceremony of the new building of the Embassy of Uzbekistan took place in Baku, symbolizing the deepening of diplomatic relations. In addition, the foundation was laid for the Uzbekistan Park, which will become a new space of friendship in Azerbaijan’s capital. A landmark moment of the visit was the participation of the President of Uzbekistan in the session of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which was held for the first time in Khankendi. The hosting of such a high-profile forum in this city has special significance for Azerbaijan, symbolizing the restoration of the region’s economic and social development as well as international support for the country’s territorial integrity. The speech by Shavkat Mirziyoyev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s friendly position towards Azerbaijan.
