Never a day goes by without a news about railway mishaps in which its bogeys get derailed meaning thereby that its maintenance department has not been functioning properly. This is not to mention other railway mishaps like accidents due to wrong handling of its signals by the concerned staff . Isn’t it a pity that time was when both our national carrier PIA and railway had occupied a pride of place in the communication sector but now like the PIA railways too is on the decline and people prefer travelling in road transport. If the rot which has set in the railways was not set right soon people won’t like to travel in trains nor traders would send their merchandise in goods trains thus confronting it with a big financial loss.

POSTSCRIPT

The President was not far wrong when he recently observed that law and order condition in Pakistan today is bigger and worse than the one that existed in the US at the time of nine eleven.
The American government countered that situation by creating an Homeland security apparatus and by adopting a strict visa regimen of entry into the US of foreign nationals. Would the powers that be in Pakistan follow suit and make things difficult for the Afghanis to enter into Pakistan as it goes without a saying that most of the suicide bombing cases are the handiwork of Afghan nationals in cahoots with Kabul. The Afghan nationals should be given city -specific visas and should not be allowed to roam in entire country. Moreover, such a system be put into place through which it could be confirmed that the Afghan nationals had left for their country after the expiry of their visa period and haven’t overstayed in Pakistan. Though the Durand Line has been fenced it needs to be reviewed and strengthened so as to ensure that nobody should cross it easily into Pakistan.
