WNAM MONITORING: D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Secretary-General Ambassador Sohail Mahmood told Anadolu that members such as Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt have been actively helping mediation efforts to prevent a further escalation in the Iran war, support a ceasefire, and promote a lasting diplomatic solution.

All sides have a duty and historic responsibility in the planned ceasefire talks between the US and Iran in Pakistan, he said in written remarks.

He added that weeks of behind-the-scenes diplomacy helped create a critical opportunity to step back from the brink.

Mahmood underlined that the talks in Islamabad must be productive and lead to a stable peace.

He warned that the risks remain very high, especially for global energy markets and economies that depend on a steady Gulf oil supply.

He said, however, that the opportunity for a breakthrough is equally significant and expressed hope that all parties would act responsibly and seriously to make the negotiations successful.
