WNAM MONITORING: More than 200 million Indonesians are expected to head to the polls across the nation today to decide who they want to succeed. In the world’s largest single-day election, voters will also elect lawmakers and regional and local councilors, determining the direction of the world’s fourth-most-populous nation for the next five years.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set up 820,161 polling stations across 84 electoral districts throughout the country’s 38 provinces, including the recently formed provinces of South Papua, Central Papua and the Papua Highlands. Polls in western Indonesia opened at 7 a.m. Voters will have until 1 p.m. Jakarta time to cast their ballots.
