Over four decades have lapsed since founder of the PPP ZA Bhutto was hanged on 4th April 1979 but it seems it was only yesterday .Time flies.
Bhutto’s slogan roti, kapra and makaan had caught the fancy of a preponderant majority of the have -nots of this country and he had become darling of the masses overnight who had voted for him overwhelmingly in the then West Pakistan in the 1970 general elections.
A man of many parts he was a proficient speaker in English language. With the passage of time he had learned to speak well in Urdu also. He was highly read. His charismatic personality had also caught the imagination of leaders of the entire Muslim world. Small wonder they came in a big number to Lahore in 1974 to attend summit meeting of Muslim head of States masterminded by him .
It was Bhutto who should be given the credit for launching atomic programme of Pakistan.
Obviously, how could Washington tolerate him for these two things which though were his achievements in the eyes of Pakistanis were follies in the eyes of the US.
It is believed by many that the Americans were behind his overthrow from power and little wonder after four decades many senior Judges of the apex court in Pakistan had to admit recently that his trial wasn’t a fair trial as it didn’t meet the ends of justice.
His hanging had been billed as a judicial murder throughout these years since he was sent to the gallows.
