Heart throb of millions of cinegoers across the world , Hollywood ‘s top actress Sophia Loren celebrated her 90 birthday last week. The Italian Sophia Loren ruled the world of celluloid in Hollywood for well over half a century from 1960 onwards though a bone injury, sustained by her, a couple of years back restricted her movements to a considerable extent. Though super stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Gina lolobrijida, Brigit Bardot and Shirley Maclene were her contemporaries she held our own in Hollywood’s cinema .She had the rare distinction of working with male heroes like John Wayne, Rock Hudson, Clark Gable and Lawrence Oliver and made a big time in cinema world. She is now on the right side of 90 but looks much younger than her years.
She is to Hollywood what Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Nutan,Nargis, Geeta bali, and Noorjehan had been to Bollywood and Lolly wood .
There is no denying the fact that like Bollywood and Lolly wood the period between 1940 and 1960 is considered to be the golden period of film making and almost all classical films like Bridge on River Kawai, Where the eagles dare, The eagle has landed, Ben Hur, Spartacus, Come September, The longest day, two women, mutiny on the bounty for whom the bells toll, to mention a few, were created during this period the likes of which were never seen again. Sophia Loren has already earned a niche in the fame hall of cinema for herself which will live as long as mother earth lasts.
