WNAM REPORT: A panel session on “New Uzbekistan – Big Country with Big Opportunities” and “International Forum on Resource Mobilization” was held as part of the Ninth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Samarkand.
The Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov spoke about the process of economic reforms implemented in the country based on the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, touched upon the favorable environment for entrepreneurship created in the country, as well as the investment potential of Uzbekistan. Thus, by 2030, it is planned to achieve the status of a country with an upper-middle income by 2030, where the private sector will provide 85 percent of the economy, and 40 percent of energy will be produced from renewable sources.
The second part of the session entitled “International Forum on Resource Mobilization” was devoted to discussing the practical aspects of priority areas of cooperation with international donors and investment funds. The opinions and comments of international experts, authoritative international banks and funds, and the country’s partners on the most promising areas for developing investment cooperation and implementing projects in Uzbekistan were heard.
As part of other events at the meeting, views were exchanged on issues such as creating decent living conditions for the population of the bank’s member countries by strengthening the economy and developing infrastructure, ensuring gender equality in society, and mitigating the negative effects of climate change and reducing its impact.
