Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): Chairperson of the Indonesian Women’s Congress (Kowani) Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo hoped that the government under President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka would pay greater attention to women and children issues.
“Women and children issues are very serious and require close attention. Ignoring these issues will have a long-term impact on the development of society as a whole,” she said in a statement here on Sunday.
The issues that need attention are, among other things, efforts to reduce the stunting rate and maternal mortality rate, women’s vulnerability to violence, exploitation, and discrimination, as well as human trafficking, whose most of the victims are women and girls.
Some other issues that also need greater attention from the government are the lack of economic empowerment and access to capital for women, low participation of women in various sectors, lack of women’s representation in leadership, and the high rate of child marriage.
Wiyogo underlined that it is essential to encourage the participation of the right and experienced women in the policy sector or strategic sector as well as increase the role of women’s organizations which often become a bridge of direct communication with the community.
Furthermore, she also highlighted the need to invite all parties, including women’s organizations and other community organizations to support the government’s programs, especially those that can improve the quality of the lives of children and women.
“Synergy and collaboration, quick and appropriate support from the government will have a big impact on the future of women and the nation’s children,” she said.
In addition, she hoped that Prabowo and Gibran, who recently took their oath of office on October 20, would carry out their tasks maximally with integrity and commitment as well as create policies that can have a positive influence on the community.
