WNAM REPORT: The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the UK Ravshan Usmanov met with Hüseyin Özhan, Acting Managing Director for Central Asia and Mongolia of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The parties discussed prospects for enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD, including attracting financing for new areas not previously covered by the bank.
The parties agreed to increase the scale of projects to develop the private sector and ensure energy stability in Uzbekistan through renewable energy sources. The focus will also be on infrastructure projects of importance to the country and social initiatives based on public-private partnerships.
Uzbekistan became a member of the EBRD in 1992, and since then the bank has financed 170 projects in the country worth 5.15 billion euros. To date, 52 percent of them are being implemented by the private sector, which underlines the growing interest in investment and entrepreneurship development in the country.
