Persons like Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah are born once in a blue moon. They are a rare commodity. Since his birthday is a few days away it won’t be a bad idea if some of traits of his personality are shared with the readers.
Once his ADC asked him ‘Sir tomorrow you are going to preside over a cabinet meeting in the Governor General House, what should be served to the participants, coffee or tea, ‘ would they be coming to the meeting without taking breakfast in their home, ‘was his reply. It is in the evidence that after that in every such meeting only plain water was served. Now this was a far cry from spending big amounts by rulers of this country after his demise on snacks specially bought from five star hotels for serving the participants of such meetings in the President or Prime minister house. Perhaps Chinese president Mao TSE Tung was the only exception who used to serve the visitors in the Peoples Hall Beijing with green tea only.
The founder of Pakistan was once addressing a public meeting in Peshawar in Urdu during the course of which he used some English language sentences also during the Pakistan movement. A Pushto speaking person who couldn’t understand the language in which the Quaid was speaking clapped over his every sentence. At the end of the meeting when a news man asked him how come he clapped when he cannot understand Urdu on which he replied that no doubt he is not versed with the language used by the Quaid but he was sure about one thing and that was that whatever he was uttering was true as he never spoke lies.
During partition of the sub continent many refugees had descended on Karachi from India. A committee headed by Syed Hashim Raza Commissioner Karachi had been constituted to allot them houses. An old Muslim Leaguer migrant asked the Quaid to tell Hashim Raza to allot him house out of the turn. The Quaid turned down his request saying he is against sifarish. Once his nearest relative gave his visiting card to the ADC of founder of the nation seeking appointment for a mulaqat with the Quaid. On the visiting card he had written cousin of the Quaid. Those words annoyed Quaid e Azam and striking them out with a red inked pen, he asked his ADC to tell his cousin never ever write these words while seeking mulaqat time with any govt functionary.
An old employee of Governor General House has written that he saw many times Quaid switching off the lights of the Governor General House at night saying those were extra.
A very senior Muslim League leader in Peshawar was once refused mulaqat by the founder of the nation after he turned up late by fifteen minutes of the appointment time .
