Whenever history of hockey in KPK will be written, the name of Lala Ayub will be written in golden letters. Nobody in KPK has contributed to the cause of hockey so much as he had. Greens hotel Peshawar cantt remained hub of hockey activities as long as he lived.
His name was Syed Mohammad Ayub but his well wishers out of love used to call him Lala Ayub. He was instrumental in the selection of almost all those hockey teams of the country that had won either Bronze, Silver or Gold Medals in the Asian and World Olympics played between 1948 and 1960. The PHF gave weightage to his opinion and he was listened to with respect by its selection committees . Lala Ayub had also served as an hockey coach of Spain’s hockey team also for one year.
Lala Ayub had spotted and then groomed many hockey players in the KPK who later on found a place in the national hockey team also .
As a human being Lala Ayub helped the needy and the have nots and all and sundry living in Peshawar cantt loved and adored him from the core of his heart as his doors were always opened for them . There was not a single eye which wasn’t wet when he joined the great majority Peshawar cantonment in particular and PHF in general was the poorer over his demise as persons like him are born once in a blue moon.
