WNAM REPORT: In order to simplify transportation, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are working on introducing a system of permit-free road transportation. This was reported by newscentralasia.net with reference to comments from the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kazinform agency.
On October 10, 2024, a protocol on amendments to the intergovernmental agreement on international road transport between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan was signed. The process of ratification of the protocol is currently underway.
In addition, the introduction of a visa-free regime for drivers between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan is being considered.
This work is taking place in light of Kazakhstan’s aim to develop transport routes to Europe through Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey.
