Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto discussed strengthening bilateral relations and regional challenges during a phone call.
In a post on his Instagram account on Sunday, Anwar said that he exchanged views with Prabowo on a range of topics, including Indonesia-Malaysia cooperation across multiple sectors.
“We discussed the importance of strengthening cooperation between our two allied nations across multiple sectors,” Anwar noted. “President Prabowo and I are confident that the close bond between Malaysia and Indonesia will serve the interests of our people.”
He added that the conversation also touched on Malaysia’s preparations to host the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur at the end of May, as the country currently holds the ASEAN chairmanship.
The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and maintaining unity within ASEAN, particularly in addressing current geopolitical and economic challenges.
In the same post, Anwar revealed that Prabowo had extended an invitation for him to make an official visit to Jakarta in the near future.
Separately, in an earlier Instagram post on May 1, Anwar said he had held a joint phone call on April 30 with President Prabowo, Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, and Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
According to Anwar, the ASEAN leaders discussed the United States’ recently announced reciprocal tariff measures and the situation in Myanmar.
“I stressed the importance of taking cohesive action as a unified bloc to strengthen our position and safeguard the region’s long-term interests,” he said.
