WNAM REPORT: The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated that Indonesia welcomes French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine.
According to a statement from the official X account @Kemlu_RI in Jakarta on Saturday, the recognition is a positive step toward securing the future of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state through a two-state solution.
“This is a positive path to preserve the prospect of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine within its 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, under the Two-State Solution,” the statement read.
Furthermore, Indonesia urged all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to follow France’s lead.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France is ready to recognize Palestinian sovereignty at the UN General Assembly in September 2025.
“Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine,” Macron noted in his statement on X on Friday (July 25).
Macron emphasized that the urgent priority now is ending the war in Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid to civilians.
Next steps include the demilitarization of Hamas, along with guarantees of security and the reconstruction of Gaza, Macron stated.
He remarked that in the long term, the international community must support each other to ensure the establishment and survival of a Palestinian state.
However, Macron also expressed hope that Palestine would contribute to realizing a secure zone by “accepting demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel.”
France would be the first member of the G7 group – the world’s largest developed economies – to recognize the state of Palestine. Currently, 147 of the 193 UN member states officially recognize the State of Palestine.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry also welcomed President Macron’s decision, calling it a “historic” step.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry noted that the decision “reflects a commitment to international law and resolving conflicts through political means to implement the two-state solution based on UN resolutions and to achieve peace in the region and the world.”
Meanwhile, the US rejected Macron’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio writing on X that “this reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace.”
