Leaders possessing farsightedness and political acumen of the type Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln and Roosevelt had to mention a few are needed today to surmount the crises that afflict various parts of the globe.
Undoubtedly umpteen countries today are in a state of serious turmoil and the super powers particularly US and Russia had a big hand in their unrest. Had America not instigated Ukraine and supplied weaponry to it the crisis in that former Soviet state would not have occurred.
After dismembering Soviet union US thought the world has now become unipolar in which Washington alone will call the shots. The American policy makers didn’t imagine in their wildest of dreams that very soon a more formidable communist country in the shape of China would emerge on the political stage which will upstage erstwhile Soviet empire. Beijing’s meat is now Washington’s poison. Small wonder Washington has been propping up Taiwan against Beijing. Both Soviet and American leadership will have to realise that eruption of third world war would mean annihilation of mother planet as more than one country today have atomic weaponry so they will have to show restrain like China and avoid escalation of disputes that engulf various parts of the globe.
POST SCRIPT
It is a pity that like the League of Nations the UN has become a dead horse. It would be a sad day for world peace if it too faced the same fate which League of the Nation met after the first world war.
