WNAM REPORT: The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has launched full operations at the Western Station of the metro, marking the completion of its four principal stations and adding a major new landmark to the capital’s public transport network.
The facility, which opens on Friday, is the largest of the Riyadh Metro’s four iconic stations — alongside King Abdullah Financial District Station, STC Al-Olaya Station, and Qasr Al-Hokm Station — and spans an area of 112,000 sq. meters.
Designed with both scale and sustainability in mind, the Western Station has earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification for efficiency and environmental performance.
Its facilities include commercial spaces, a mosque accommodating 550 worshippers, public amenities, and a transport parking area with capacity for more than 600 vehicles.
The station is built to handle more than 60,000 rail passengers and 1,300 bus passengers per hour, cementing its role as a major interchange hub connecting routes and key destinations across Riyadh.
The Western Station, located in the Dhahrat Al-Badiah quarter, southwest of downtown Riyadh, sits along the orange line of the Riyadh Metro, which links the Jeddah station and Tuwaiq on the western end to Khashm Al-An on the eastern end.
The launch reflects the rapid advancement of Riyadh’s integrated urban infrastructure and its broader goals of improving quality of life, boosting mobility, and reducing reliance on private vehicles — all central pillars of Saudi Vision 2030.
