Trump wants to see the back of NATO because according to him other members of this alliance aren’t sharing with America its bills and Washington alone cannot be its sole almoner any more.
This alliance had come into being soon after the second world war with the objective to work as a bulwark against the then Soviet Union and it comprised many western European countries. Moscow set up Warsaw pact soon after to counteract it. There are many political observers who fear that its dismemberment would endanger world peace though consensus opinion is that it has lost its utility with the changed political scenario.
