WNAM MONITORING: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the report on the admission process to state higher education institutions, improving the quality of the higher education system, and introducing international educational programs.

Currently, entrance exams to higher educational institutions are taking place, with 805,000 applicants participating.

Officials provided information on the state order plan for training personnel in higher educational institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year. It was noted that this year, the number of quotas for both undergraduate and graduate programs is increasing in fields such as “engineering,” “construction,” “natural sciences,” “mathematics,” and “information technology.” Admissions for paid-contract education in both state and non-state institutions are conducted under the same conditions, within the scientific potential and material-technical base of the universities.

The head of state gave instructions to approve the overall state order for higher educational institutions, paying particular attention to the development needs of the country and labor market demands.

There is a high demand for engineering personnel in Uzbekistan. At the video selector meeting held on 20 June, a task was set to improve the activities of higher educational institutions in this field.

Currently, the Termez Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Termez Institute of Agrotechnology and Innovative Development are operating in Surkhandarya. It is planned to establish the Termez State University of Engineering and Agrotechnology by merging these institutions.

This will allow for the implementation of an effective management system, the reduction of duplicate faculties and departments, and the optimization of certain staff positions.

A leading engineering school will be established within the new university. Students with high academic performance will be selected on a competitive basis and trained in special educational programs focused on practice. Industrial partners corresponding to the school’s directions will be determined, and modern laboratories will be created. Based on their proposals, scientific research and experimental design work will be organized.

Instructions were given to attract specialists with international experience and high scientific and practical qualifications to leadership and teaching positions at the university, and to assess their work effectiveness based on international standards.

The head of state emphasized the need to strengthen the integration of the industry, enterprises, and higher educational institutions, and to prepare advanced, competitive specialists.

During the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the USA in September 2023, agreements were reached in the field of education. For example, the opening of the American Technological University in Tashkent is expected.

The university will train personnel in the fields of engineering, architecture and design, information technology, healthcare, economics and finance, and international relations. Students will have the opportunity to spend one year of their bachelor’s and master’s education in a remote format.

Graduates will be awarded a diploma from Arizona State University or a diploma from a foreign partner university recognized in the USA.

Organizational measures and further goals in this direction have been determined.
