The annual session in September of General Assembly of the UN is at best a Tete- Tete of UN members and at worst an exercise in futility. Hitherto such moots have seldom resulted in solution of umpteen crisis that plague the world. The UN like its predecessor the erstwhile League of Nations has sadly become a debating club only in which the leaders of the aggrieved countries vent their spleen . Seen in this context one should therefore not pin too much hope on the current session of the UN General Assembly.
POST SCRIPT
The address of Israeli Prime Minister to the General Assembly of the UN the other day reeked of assertion that Iran and not Israel was responsible for the Middle East crisis. He also maintained that Palestine belongs to the Jews and that
they belong to the oldest religion of the world.
It is unfortunate to say the least that the leadership of both Iran and America is not ready to budge an inch from their hard stance as a result of which eruption of third world war at any time cannot be ruled out altogether.
