WNAM MONITORING: The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, met Thursday in Ashgabat with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas. During the meeting, he confirmed his participation in the first Central Asia – European Union summit, scheduled for April 3-4 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as reported by the EU Delegation press release in Turkmenistan.
During the talks, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Kallas discussed cooperation in key areas, including energy, communications, sustainable development, and education.
The summit in Samarkand, with the participation of the heads of Central Asian states and EU leadership, will focus on promising areas of cooperation in trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian fields. Special attention will be given to developing collaboration in alternative energy, green economy, transportation, and digitalization. Kallas arrived in Ashgabat on March 27 to chair the 20th EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting, which was attended by representatives from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
